Vinci to kick off £350m Stockport regeneration

Vinci has been picked to deliver the first phase of a £350m mixed-use neighbourhood in Stockport.

In early 2026 the French construction giant will start work by demolishing the Stagecoach depot currently on the site, which is to the west of Stockport’s city centre and its recently-finished bus interchange.

It will then build 435 homes and 880 square metres of commercial space as part of the £100m first phase of Stockport 8, a major regeneration delivered by Morgan Sindall subsidiary Muse and backed by Legal & General, Homes England and Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC).

Phase two and three will see the delivery of a further 852 homes and 575 square metres of commercial space both north and west of the depot site.

Alongside Vinci, the project team for the first phase includes architect ShedKM, landscape architect Planit, project manager Walker Sime, structural and civil engineers Tace (MEP) and Renaissance, and highways consultant Arup.

Paul Richards, deputy chief executive of Stockport Council and chief executive of Stockport MDC, said: “Stockport 8 is a cornerstone of our plans for Town Centre West, and reaching this milestone is a significant step forward in delivering our vision for a thriving, sustainable town centre.

“It’s fantastic to see momentum building for the regeneration of the area as a whole, with a number of exciting developments now progressing at speed and 1,200 new homes already completed or under construction.”
