Sinners — the latest film from writer-director Ryan Coogler starring Michael B. Jordan— is new in theaters. Is there a post-credits scene audiences should stick around for?
Sinners opens in theaters nationwide on Friday. The film marks the fifth collaboration between Coogler and Jordan, who previously worked together on Fruitvale Station, Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Creed.
Jordan stars as twin brothers Smoke and Stack in Sinners, which is set in the American South in the early 1930s. After serving in World War I and boosting money from criminal enterprises in Chicago, Smoke and Stack return to their hometown Mississippi to open a juke joint.
Among the acts Smoke and Stack feature the night their juke joint opens is their cousin Sammie (Miles Caton) — a gifted blues guitarist and singer — but soon a trio of vampires arrive on the scene all hell breaks loose as they begin to attack everyone in sight.
Rated R, Sinners also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wumni Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller and Delroy Lindo.

What Happens During The End Credits Of ‘Sinners’?
End credits or post-credits scenes generally serve one of two purposes. Either they tie up loose ends from a scene earlier in the film or tease a possible sequel.
In the case of Sinners, the film has a mid-credits scene after the end credits begin to roll as well as a post-credits scene.
The mid-credits scene is essentially an extension of the final scene in Sinners, which also plays throughout the opening credits. Picking up the action 60 years later, the scene features an elderly Sammie (blues legend Buddy Guy) playing at a club with a guitar that was restored to the original condition it was in 60 years before. The significance of the guitar will not be spoiled here, nor will the identity of two vampires who survived the mayhem at Smoke and Stack’s juke joint 60 years earlier.
While it’s conceivable that two vampire characters — who are destined to live forever unless they are properly vanquished — could be featured in a Sinners sequel, the mid-credits scene serves as more of a bookend to young Sammie’s (Miles Caton) story. During the mid-credits scene, there are several reflections on Sammie’s life as a young man, plus a tempting offer from the vampires to give the elderly bluesman immorality.
In addition, there’s a post-credits scene that features the young version of Sammie signing a song, which, like the mid-credits scene, doesn’t serve as a springboard for a sequel. Instead, it feels like an encore performance by Caton, a real-life R&B performer who puts his immense musical talent on full display throughout the entire film, which marks his big-screen debut.
While it doesn’t seem like making a Sinners sequel is Ryan Coogler’s intention, the filmmaker already has a lot riding in his favor if he wants to travel down that route.
Sequels, of course, generally depend on the financial success of the film and if Sinners’ opening weekend box office projections are an indication, the film will get off to a great start. While Warner Bros. is forecasting a $35 to $40 million opening for Sinners, Hollywood’s trade publications are projecting a $40 million to $50 million take for the film in its first three-day frame.
Also in the film’s favor is Sinners’ $90 million production budget before prints and advertising costs, per Variety, which is a relatively manageable number in the film’s strive for profitability and discussions for another chapter. Plus, Sinners is a big winner with critics, which always helps.
