Solana Mobile has announced the launch of its Seeker web3 smartphone, slated for release in 2025, along with the Play Solana Gen1 gaming console, advancing its efforts to integrate blockchain technology into mobile and gaming platforms.

Solana Launches Seeker Mobile

Solana Mobile Inc., a subsidiary of blockchain technology leader Solana Labs, has revealed its second-generation web3 mobile device, Seeker, along with a dedicated web3 gaming console. These launches mark a significant advancement in Solana’s push toward greater web3 adoption.

Scheduled for release in 2025, the Seeker smartphone has already drawn substantial interest, with preorders surpassing 140,000 units across 57 countries. Initially introduced as “Chapter Two” earlier this year, the Seeker is a more affordable successor to the Solana Saga, priced at $450 during its presale period, which ends on September 21, 2024.

Key Features of Seeker

The Seeker offers several new features tailored for web3 users, including a self-custodial Seed Vault Wallet with double-tap transactions and simplified account management. It also features a revamped Solana dApp Store with a rewards tracker that caters to DeFi, NFTs, gaming, etc, and the Seeker Genesis Token, a soulbound NFT that unlocks exclusive content and rewards within the Solana ecosystem. Additionally, the device features hardware improvements such as a lighter build, brighter display, and extended battery life.

According to Solana Co-Founder and Solana Labs CEO Anatoly Yakovenko, the new features aim to make mobile crypto more accessible.

He stated,

“We founded Solana Mobile with the mission of taking crypto mobile. To achieve that, we needed to make Seeker more accessible, more affordable, and for its hardware and software to be even more deeply integrated for web3. The support from across the Solana community so far has been incredible, and with features like the new Seed Vault Wallet and the updated Solana dApp Store, we think Seeker will be the definitive web3 mobile device when it comes out next year.”

Play Solana Gen1: A Dedicated Web3 Gaming Console

In tandem with the Seeker, Solana Mobile has also introduced the Play Solana Gen1 (PSG1), a handheld gaming console designed for blockchain-based games on the Solana network. Announced on September 19, the console promises instant transactions, low-latency gameplay, and easy asset management—all integrated within the Solana ecosystem.

Preorder details for the PSG1 will be revealed at the Solana Breakpoint Conference in Singapore on September 20-21, 2024. Holders of the Player 1 NFT will have priority access to the preorders, discounted pricing, and exclusive community engagement opportunities.

Solana’s Vision for Web3

The launch of both the Seeker smartphone and PSG1 console highlights Solana Mobile’s commitment to driving mobile crypto adoption and expanding web3 technology. These new devices are expected to play a pivotal role in bringing blockchain-based experiences to a broader audience.
